52 Workday Prayers: Psalm 33 - God’s Word and Work

Prayer / Produced by partner of TOW

For the word of the LORD is upright,
and all his work is done in faithfulness.

Psalm 33:4

Prayer

Lord, I praise you today become of who you are. I rejoice in you because you have made yourself known to me.

Your word, O Lord, is upright. It is solid and straight, something by which I can measure my life, my work, my world. You establish the standard for life, revealing how I am to live in every part of life. When you speak, Lord, I listen, learn, and obey. Your word is always trustworthy.

Your word is reflected and activated in your work. You created the world by your word, speaking all things into existence. What you do is firm and steady, always worthy of trust. You are faithful in all things, Lord, whether I can perceive it or not. What you promise, you will do. What you offer, you will provide. What you claim, you will save.

As I praise you today for your word and your work, I seek to imitate you, in spite of my limitations. In my work today, Lord, may I speak what is true. May those who work with me know that my word is trustworthy.

And may I do my work in faithfulness, honoring the commitments I’ve made and the trust I’ve been given. Help me, Lord, to work in a way that honors you above all. May every word I speak, every action I take, every thought I think, every emotion I feel glorify you. May my work this day be an act of worship, a tangible expression of praise. Amen.

Ponder Throughout the Day

All of God’s work is done in faithfulness.

For Further Reflection

Read all of Psalm 33, paying attention to what the Spirit of God is stirring up in your heart, especially in relationship to your work. Talk with God about what you are thinking and feeling.

In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. – Genesis 1:1-3

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. - John 1:1-4
