In 2008, Faith High School played football against Gainesville State School, a juvenile detention center team with no fans.  Until that night.

Faith High put 200 fans in Gainesville’s bleachers, made a banner for players to crash through, and even supplied cheerleaders.  For the first time, Gainesville players heard a crowd cheer for them—by name!  Faith High won, but Gainesville had its best game of the season—and doused its coach in Gatorade.

After the game, both teams gathered mid-field to pray.  A Gainesville player asked to lead.  He said, “Lord, I don’t know how this happened. I never would’ve known so many people in the world cared about us.”

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge.  Here’s to encouraging everyone—in the high calling of our daily work.

Then Jesus said to his host, "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.  But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed.  Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."  (Luke 14:12-14)
