Her Way

At a parent-teacher meeting, Julie worried aloud about her pre-schooler. "I see Monique on the playground and she's, well, stubborn," Julie told the teacher. "She waits for others to invite her in.  Then she wants everything her way.  Or she pouts."

A thought struck Julie: her own behavior at work was just like Monique’s. Julie was slow to initiate, slow to compromise . . . or share. When projects failed to go her way, she acted like—well, like her daughter on the playground. But she could change.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. From the playground to the office to the boardroom, the same essentials identify a team player:  openness, generosity, flexibility, and patience.  Julie changed.  Can you?  It’s the high calling of our daily work.

Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house,
because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord,
"Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor,
and if I have cheated anybody out of anything,
I will pay back four times the amount."

Luke 19:8-9
