Remember the story of Joseph, the spoiled son—sold into slavery, who became the number two leader of all Egypt, the model business manager?

As a young slave, Joseph soon oversaw his master’s large estate. But a woman’s lies landed him in jail. But then, within two years, he was managing the prison.

From there, God picked Joseph to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams. And what does Joseph do? He tacks on an operations plan to prosper Egypt through a seven-year drought. Pharaoh, impressed, made Joseph the Executive Director of the whole nation!

I’m Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. The story of Joseph teaches us patience and endurance. Patient endurance is essential in the high calling of our daily work.

I lift up my eyes to you,

to you whose throne is in heaven.

As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,

as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress,

so our eyes look to the LORD our God,

till he shows us his mercy.

(from Ps. 123)
