A List to Fight Boredom
Transcript
A librarian named Blanche McKeown observed that many older people who came to her library seemed bored and lonely. Blanche resolved not to lose interest with age—and made herself this list: 1) join a church and be active in some part of it; 2) give of your time as well as your money; 3) interest a young person in your line of work and teach her to love it as you do; 4) select a hobby that you can grow into as you grow older.
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Every person's plan is different, but Blanche reminds us that the people, ideas, and habits we acquire today will determine whether we wring the full measure from . . . the high calling of our daily work.
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
