Major Applewhite

Transcript

Major Applewhite was starting quarterback at the University of Texas. As a sophomore, he was Big 12 co-offensive player of the year. He held or shared 40 school records.

Yet Major Applewhite spent his senior season on the bench. But watching from the sideline, he never complained.

Then, the final game of the season, Coach named Applewhite the starting quarterback. And in the Holiday Bowl, he led the Longhorns to a "come from behind" victory.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. They also serve who only sit on the bench. After suffering a demotion, Major Applewhite never complained or gave up. He persevered as a team player. And he won! Perseverance and teamwork are essential in the high calling of our daily work.

The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.

(Eccl. 7:8-9)
