Our Goal is Love
Transcript
Some years ago, Henry Nouwen died of a heart attack. He was a Catholic priest and psychologist best known for his book The Wounded Healer.
Those words, "wounded healer," speak volumes. In our brokenness, we live under God's blood and blessing. Yet, Henry would say sadly, "Many people . . . think they are unloved and unsafe. When suffering comes, they believe it affirms their worthlessness."
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Henry believed our great spiritual quest is to learn to live our brokenness under the blessing and not the curse. Where we stumble and fail, God's grace and mercy thrive. Our goal is not perfection, but love . . . in the high calling of our daily work.
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (Col. 3:13-14)
